Abstract: Control of PMSG based wind system using Fractional Order Proportional Integral controller (FOPI) is presented in this system for improvement in power quality. By using FOPI controller, the desired active and reactive power has obtained at load terminal. The discuss model consists of wind turbine model and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator(PMSG) and the control technique implemented in this paper comprised current vector control and Direct Power Control (DPC).Proportional Integral(PI) and FOPI controllers were implemented on Simulink environment. The current vector control applied on wind speed which extracts desired power by using FOPI controller. For power factor improvement DPC algorithm has used. Simulation results comprise active and reactive power, output dc-link voltages of both controllers. The results of both the PI and FOPI controllers were compared, and it was determined that the FOPI controller has better tracking performance and robustness than the PI controller.
